Not bad at all for a teen flick! (Coyote Ugly (DVD))

Advantages: Decent plot, Good acting, Funny in parts

You know how it is I?m sure. Most people are at least a little addicted to the TV, or specific types of programmes, e.g. soaps. Aren?t they? Aren?t YOU? Go on. Admit it! Well you see, I used to be one of you. I was addicted to EastEnders and Neighbours and documentaries so long as they were about science. That was until I became addicted to the Internet. I became addicted to the Internet within a short space of time. And within a short space of time I had *no* time to do anything else! That is until you have the Internet taken away from you. Like last night for instance. I was dog sitting. This meant a whole day and night with no Internet! Shock, horror! What was a girl to do? (After looking after the dog of course!) Well there was just one thing remaining. I had to push that red button?.. (the TV was on standby) So. I pressed it. What was it like? Bizarre I can tell you! Watching pictures on a square-ish screen. These pictures moved. Who?d have thought it eh!!

Yes, so anyway, enough rambling. Sadly the owner of the dog didn?t have Sky TV which meant I was stuck with 4 terrestrial channels. Fortunately it turned out Wednesday night was a relatively decent night for TV watching. Not only was Animal Hospital on but I also managed to fill the 9pm-11pm ish slot too by watching this film. I saw it advertised on ITV1 Wales whilst watching This Morning (yes, I was subjected to day-time TV too!) I?d heard of Coyote Ugly before but never seen anything about it particularly and I had no idea what it was about. So, I guess I was going into this film quite blind. Which in some respects is a good thing. At least you aren?t going in with any preconceived ideas then.

~ = What?s Coyote Ugly about? = ~

The general plot revolves around a small-town girl moving to New York. Her dream is to make it as a singer/songwriter. It isn?t easy though, no one will listen to her tapes
without an agent but how does she get an agent if no one will listen to her tapes? Catch 22.
She realises she?ll have to get a job in the meantime. She ends up working at the Coyote Ugly (a bar with a bit of a difference in that its main form of entertainment is having girls prance around on the bar, however, even more unusual, they keep their clothes on!) On the surface it doesn?t look like it?ll work out. She?s just not the type to work (and fit in) in a place like that. As I?m sure you?ll have fathomed out by now though. After a while it all works out for her?. and for the rest, you?ll just have to watch for yourselves!

Normally I don?t think I?d watch the film, you know, like if I?d had access to the Internet for instance! However, I am glad I did watch it now. It was better than I was expecting. I?m not really into the whole teen romance type films particularly and as this film does have an aspect of that to it I wasn?t really expecting much from it. However, the overall plot in this film is more in-depth than merely love-sick teenagers.

Its got its element of comedy to it too, along with a bit of drama and romance. Overall its quite a balanced film on the whole. Which I think is one of its strong points. It doesn?t get wrapped up in one aspect of the storyline.

The film lasts 101 minutes which is just about right I think. It doesn?t seem to drag on at all.
All in all I?d give this film a 4/5 stars which is not what I would have expected at all from a ?typical? teenage movie. I was pleasantly surprised though. Just like I was when I watched Cruel Intentions. So it seems there *can* be decent teen flicks ou
t there. They?re just hard to find!

I?d recommend this film. I say you should give it a go. You may be pleasantly surprised too!
