Cranford (Cranford - Complete Series (DVD))

Advantages: All star cast, beautifully written and acted Disadvantages: Not enough episodes! Cranford is a real classic. After watching it on t.v we immediately bought it on dvd because it is really brilliant. It was adapted from 3 stories by Elizabeth Gaskell Cranford, My Lady Ludlow, and Mr Harrison's Confessions. It is set in the early 1840s in Cranford, and the story focuses mainly on the middle class female inhabitants of the town. Miss Matty Jenkyns (Judi Dench) and Miss Deborah Jenkyns (Eileen Atkins), two spinster sisters, have a guest from Manchester. While the arrival of a new doctor, Mr. Frank Harrison (Simon Woods), causes a stir with a number of Cranford Ladies. This is a beautifully written and stunningly acted drama series, with some fantastic costumes and an all star cast. I would really recommend this to anyone who enjoys period dramas, a lovely costume drama. It was nominated for 10 Baftas, which it won 3 of. It also won 3 emmy awards and a golden globe for best drama programme. Summary: WONDERFUL! |
