Advantages: Cast are excellent, great writing and directing, original thought-provoking plot
Disadvantages: None
Crash was only released four years ago now. It is predominately a drama and set in Los Angeles.
The plot is very original in the way Paul Haggis has gone about it. I'm a firm believer that the writer also being the director is a huge advantage for the movie. The lives of several characters are observed for a short period of time, with the film jumping from each character, touching on topics such as race, society and crime. The way the characters get linked together, first only in small cases, and then towards the end, really is brilliant and Paul Haggis did a great job of this. Of course it wouldn't have been so effective if the cast wasn't so convincing and creative with their roles.
The title of this movie actually put me off for a long time. I saw "Crash" and just assumed an action flick, not paying much to attention to it. I can assure you the title is aptly named and you'll understand when you watch it, as it has multiple meanings in the movie. Not surprisingly, it won three Oscars in; Best achievement in editing, Best writing and Best motion picture of the year, the latter being the most important and well-deserved of the three.
Summary: Watch this one.
