Critters 4 (DVD)

I would like to say that I was sufficiently impressed with this film but alas it has a few flaws. I was left wondering if a fourth Critters film was really needed, after all number 3 was pushing it, but here we go anyway... This time round, the critters are off into space and ready to wreak havoc on some unsuspecting space crew. Cue the usual attacks and grisly deaths as the crew are picked off one by one. The characters in this are quite strong though and there are a few to identify with. Angela Basset and Brad Dourif add some clout to the film and pull off decent enough performances. Carrying straight on from where Critters 3 left off, this sequel sees Charlie blasted into space, into hibernation and fighting against the Krites, once again. His pod is picked up by a ragbag crew on a space freighter, including genre favourite (well one of my favourite actors) Brad Dourif, and a pre-Tina Angela Bassett. Fighting among themselves about salvage rights to an abandoned vessel, they get picked off one by one... From the hilarious cover (the Alien egg with a critter sticking out of it) to the basic storyline, it's obvious where the inspiration for this one came from.
