The original Cube was a cult hit when it was released in 1997, making incredibly economic use of a shoestring budget in order to create a tense and thoroughly engaging thriller where people woke up inside a seemingly inescapable cube, where the rooms around them were littered with dangerous traps. In 2002, the sequel, Cube 2: Hypercube, was released to fairly negative reviews and it was, to be fair, a rather inept reworking of a great concept. It focused too much on flashy CGI and had a ridiculous zero-gravity sex scene, but the ending was quite daring and gave us more of a glimpse into what happens when people manage to escape the cube. Cube Zero is the third installment to the Cube series and a prequel to the first release. Inevitably not as popular as the original, like Hypercube, which attempts to give the history, creation and reasoning behind the cube. The majority of the movie focuses on two Cube workers, Eric (Zachary Bennett) and Dodd (David Huband) whose job are to watch over and control its function. However, Eric enters the Cube when he realises an innocent woman is inside, resulting in the superiors getting involved as they attempt to escape together.
