... from anywhere and they have no idea that Cujo is rabid and out for blood. But they soon find out. Cujo isn't the greatest movie around in terms of special effects, stunts and such like but what it does do is convert the book very well to the screen and resultantly grips us by the throat until its close. The novel was tense, but showed us the inner turmoil with Cujo, the once loving family pet, as he is driven to attack and kill against his otherwise loving nature. The movie probably doesn't convey ths very wel...more

Premium Review Cujo (DVD): Beethoven Goes Beserk (468 words)
by - written on 06/10/01 (Very useful, 98 readings)
Rating:

Cujo is a movie which never should have worked. A movie about a killer dog might certainly be a great idea - but a killer Saint Bernard? It hardly seems like the idea choice of murderous beastie, especially for thsoe of us who have sat through the Beethoven movies and that loveable Saint Bernard there. However, thanks to some wonderful directing etc. Cujo does work, and its pretty tense stuff. Cujo is the name of the dog in question. He is a loving family pet until one day whilst running in the woods he is bitten by a bat. This bat was rabid and the disease begins to take hold of Cujo...Meanwhile a mother and her young son are heading over to the farm where ...  Read the complete review

Premium Review best in a long line of killer dog flicks (116 words)

Rating:

Directed by Lewis (alligator) Teague . Donna trenton (stone) and her young son are trapped inside their car by the rabies infected title canine. ok so its been done to death in recent years the nature run amok gimmick but in all honesty the seemingly endless barrage of killerdog, cats, rats, fish, frogs and god knows what else cannot hold a candle to this truly gripping film with a strong performance from Stone and super direction from Teague this turns out to be one of a small few king adaptations that live up to the books on which they were based. starring Dee Wallace(howling)Stone ...  Read the complete review

Premium Review Cujo (DVD): Prepare not to be scared (214 words)
by - written on 29/10/00 (Useful, 37 readings)
Rating:

I haven't read the book, so I have no idea if a big fat dumb dog can be scary in another context, but this movie is about as scary as a Winnie the Pooh book read with the lights on. Apparently, it's very cut down, but the situation is relatively simple: woman who is having an affair (Dee Wallace) goes to remote house with son, meets rabid St Bernard, has pretty bad day. That's it. I guess with a really dodgy special effects mutt, some residual entertainment value might have been possible, but as it is, things get slightly grimy, one (or was it two) residual characters get wasted by the dog, and Wallace gets quite grimy and screams a lot. I ...  Read the complete review
