... 'Dr Who' (sic) picks up inept policeman Bernard Cribbens and transports then to the decimated London of 2150AD. The film looks good and the Daleks make a worthy film adversary. Decent Dalek deaths include being run over and destroyed by an old red van and being thrown down a gangplank at top speed. A brisk 82 minutes of my life well spent! Interestingly enough and something I didn't mention from the review of Dr Who and Daleks was the countdown sequence - no other film in living memory has a countdown of 30 seconds sp...more

DALEKS - INVASION EARTH 2150AD DALEKS - INVASION EARTH 2150AD is a 1966 movie based on the classic television series DOCTOR WHO - it is in fact based on the television story, 'The Dalek Invasion Of Earth' which was a 6 episode story originally broadcast in 1964. The film is a sequel to the 1965 movie DR. WHO AND THE DALEKS. As in the earlier movie, the film stars Peter Cushing as Dr. Who, a human inventor based on the planet Earth. The plot has Dr. Who and his granddaughter Susan (again played by Roberta Tovey), niece Louise (played by Jill Curzon), and a policeman Tom (played by Bernard Cribbins), travel forward in time to 2150 where they find a ...  Read the complete review

Having nothing better to do this afternoon, I found myself watching this, as Channel 4 was kind enough to show it. I hadn't actually seen it for years, and was surprised that not only did I manage to sit through the whole thing, but I also thoroughly enjoyed it. Dr Who the TV show started in 1963, a time travelling adventure series for kids. It quickly became immensely popular, largely because of the Daleks, evil robotic aliens shaped like pepperpots, which enchanted the nation with their grating metallic voices, murderous antics and sinister catchphrase ('Exterminate!', as if you didn't know). Two films were made to cash in on the Dalek ...  Read the complete review

Premium Review Daleks: Invasion Earth 2150 A.D. (DVD): One the best British sci-fi films (771 words)

I have never been able to fully understand why this title is so often overlooked. It seems to come together so beautifully that I'm amazed it's not widely considered to be a classic. I suspect it has something to do with the fact that it doesn't fit into Doctor Who continuity, so many fans shun it. On the other hand, 'proper' sci-fi buffs probably reject it on the basis that it was essentially aimed at kids when it was released. But delve closer and you'll find that it's really not as childish as you might assume. The story is based quite closely on the 1964 Doctor Who story, The Dalek Invasion of Earth. It's been condensed and ...  Read the complete review

The second in a proposed run of three films based on the BBC's series Doctor Who (which for the short of memory, centred on a man with two hearts travelling round time and space in a police box helping people out), this film proves that NOTHING dates more quickly than the futuristic. A product of the mid-sixties, the setting was almost two hundred years in the future, but the only thing that seems to have changed in all that time is that flat caps have become some sort of fashion statement. Running around Dalek-occupied London and Dalek-occupied Bedfordshire, the tone lurches between camp technobabble-fuelled science-fiction, Resistance movies and film ...  Read the complete review

As a sequel to the pretty good 60's Dalek cash-in, Dalek Invasion Earth is a strange addition to the Dr Who universe. Strange because you wonder why they just didn't ask William Hartnell to reprise his on-screen interpretation of Docto Who. Much more enjoyable than its predecessor. 'Dr Who' (sic) picks up inept policeman Bernard Cribbens and transports then to the decimated London of 2150AD. The film looks good and the Daleks make a worthy film adversary.
