Often considered one of Kevin Costner's most powerful films to date, Dances With Wolves is a thoughtful and emotional tale that requires a bit of concentration. Set in the aftermath of the Civil War, it features KC as a war hero who is relocated to a post near a tribe of Sioux Indians. WHAT IS IT ABOUT: Kevin Costner stars as Lt John Dunbar, a hero of the American Civil War who travels to his new post on the Western frontier. At first an emotionless, up tight soldier, things soon change as he begins to interact with a tribe of Sioux Indians, causing him to re-evaluate his loyalties. WAS IT ANY GOOD: I just re-watched this last night, and have to say I still enjoyed it just as much as I did when it came out in 1990. John Dunbar is a union soldier during the American civil war when he finds himself about to have his foot amputated. I have only just recently seen Dances with Wolves, I remember hearing about it when it came out in 90/91, but I really didn’t take much notice because I was young and foolish! This film probably shows Kevin Costner at the peak of his career. He became director and producer as well as assuming lead role as a Union solder, who, while badly injured shows an act of courage which earns him access to good the best physicians and the choice to be stationed wherever he chooses. This film is one which hubby really wanted to see but it had never really appealed to me but once I found out it was Kevin Costner who played the lead I was swayed slightly so decided to treat him to the DVD. John Dunbar is serving in the US Army and it is the 1860's. He gets badly injured and is told he will loose his foot. As a last resort he manages to get away from the hospital an makes his way to a post where the high ranking officers are and after he shows bravery and courage, he really just wanted to be killed, he is treated by their doctors and his foot and leg are saved.
