This is an excellent film which although not quite a spoof it dos'nt take itself too seriously.Liam Neeson stars in an early role as Peyton Westlake a gifted scientist on the verge of creating synthetic skin. The miracle discovery is tainted by the fact that it becomes unstable after exposure to light for 99 minutes. As he works on his discovery his lover Julie played by Frances McDormond (Fargo) has dicovered documents that implicate her boss in a bribery scandal.Unwisley she confronts him and prety soon a squad of goons is sent to destroy the evidence, which is being kept at Payton's lab... A really grisly scene follows where his assistant is ... Read the complete review

Whilst most comic book franchises hit the silver screen with a resounding thud, bringing with them months of publicity and hype which almost automatically guarantees them success, Darkman, sneaked in the back door with relatively little exposure. Coming shortly after the first Batman movie was released, Darkman takes the franchise of a much lesser known comic book, with a far smaller budget and with virtually no advertising whatsoever - and kicks its butt. Peyton Westlake(Liam Neeson) is a scientist working on the formula for a new form of artificial skin. His girlfriend(Frances Mcdormand) however is a lawyer who unwittingly discovers that her newest client is ... Read the complete review

One of my most heated "Student's when Drunk" arguments was about this film, with heavily divided opinions. This is definitely a love it or loath it movie. I loved it, and have recently purchased it on video. The plot revolves around a scientist played by Neeson, who is working on a formula to invent a synthetic skin. Unfortunately his formula becomes unstable after 99 minutes of exposure to light. After being attacked, and horribly burned by some gangsters, he is hospitalised and undergoes radical surgery which leaves him feeling no pain. The side-effect of this is that he is very paranoid and with huge amounts of adrenaline surging unchecked ... Read the complete review

'Darkman' was an awful action/horror movie, made in about 1989 to cash in on the tremendous success of Tim Burton's 'Batman'. Of course, it failed. The story is about a scientist who is horribly deformed when mobsters working for a corporation toture him and smash his laboratory up, forcing him to live in the shadows and fight crime as a masked vigilante... sound familiar? 'Darkman' is almost entertaining and unintentionally funny. The best reason to watch it is probably to see Liam Neeson embarrassing himself in the starring role, before he earned credibilty as Oskar Schindler in ... Read the complete review
