Disadvantages: Campy, Some holes in plot
This was simply a great movie. I liked Batman too, but Darkman had so much heart and emotion and was so vulnerable.
Darkman is not your typical superhero. He was originally a scientist until his lab was destroyed by a bunch of thugs. He was tortured and mutilated beyond recognition. However he survived the blast and was taken to a hospital. There his thalamic nerve was severed, leaving him without tactile senese(he can't feel). This gives him super-human strength, but it also leads to uncontrolable emotions, esp. rage.
Darkman escapes from the hospital and starts making masks of those who tortured him with liquid skin. Using these masks, he infiltrates their gang and turns it insideout. The catch is the skin doesn't last beyond 99 minutes in daylight.
I liked the movie because Darkman is an emotional man, not like many action heroes who always seem too valiant to ever express any emotion. When was the last time you saw Superman or Batman cry? Darkman rages, he laughs, he cries, just like you or me. But when push comes to shove, he is a deadly fighter not to be tangled with.
