Date Night (DVD)
Advantages: Hilarious, I was laughing out loud
Disadvantages: Nothing for me, but maybe you won't like it if you were expecting serious action
I was over at my sister's house the other day and when looking for a film to watch we came across this one which she had recorded on Sky + a while ago. Neither of us really knew anything about this film and had not really heard of it but thought it was worth a try, mainly because I like Tina Fey and generally find her funny. Also I like Steve Carrell as Michael Scott in the American version of the office.
Date Night is a mixture of comedy and action, but does not take itself seriously as an action film at all! The starring roles of Claire and Phil Foster are played by Tina Fey and Steve Carrell, and they are a middle aged couple who live a happy life but stuck in a bit of a rut due to being a bit worn down by the routine of married life, kids and work. They try to stick to a regular date night but end up always doing the same things so one night they decide to change it up and go for a fancy dinner in New York City (they live in New Jersey) with has some hilarious and unexpected consequences as they steal the dinner reservation of the "triplehorns", causing a case of mistaken identity and them being drawn into an action packed criminal chase.
The storyline is very far fetched but this did not bother me at all as this film is not supposed to be serious, it is pure entertainment. It is very silly through and through but I loved it as I was laughing out loud many times during the film! The main characters make some hilarious comments and there are also a few cheap laughs from things like ridiculous dance moves, but there is no real gross out humour which is good for me as I can be squeamish!
I would say this film was an unexpected gem as it cracked me up despite never having heard of it before!
Summary: So funny
