=========================
Following on from the excellent Dave Gorman Collection aka Are You Dave Gorman? comes the Googlewhack adventure. Dave wants to put his silly adventuring behind him, easier said than done it seems.
Dave is now a thirty-something, 31 to be precise and wants to become a novelist. However, nobody told him how hard writing a novel is. Dave finds it impossible to concentrate on his book. The main reason for this is because his computer is connected to the Internet and is perhaps the greatest distraction ever invented (I think most of you would agree).
Dave receives an email from a stranger telling him that his website contains a Googlewhack. Intrigued he replies back and asks what exactly is a Googlewhack. It turns out to be a game that people play using the search engine Google. The idea is to put in two words that will only return on result from the millions of websites Google has indexed. Not as easy as you might think, especially as the words must be in the dictionary, and as time goes on finding them becomes difficult as the Internet expands.
Anyone who knows about Dave Gorman knows he likes unusual challenges, so after a friend (also called Dave Gorman) bets him he can't meet ten Googlewhacks in a row where each Googlewhack he meets can find him only two more to try and meet and despite resisting the temptation he gives in an accepts the bet If he comes to a dead end he has to start all over again.
Dave becomes more and more obsessed with winning the bet and his publishers who's advance money he is spending to fund his Googlewhack hunt are getting nothing in the way of the novel he's promised them. On his way he meets some truly interesting people. Has a dire time in Washington. Meets some creationists and gets himself into all kind of trouble when he is refused entry to a club to name but a few. He even gets contacted from a website entitled "Women and Dogs", I hope you're not thinking what I think you're
thinking!
Dave performs it as a cross between a stand up show and a presentation. He uses a projector connected to his laptop to show photos and video clips to backup his points and as usual he uses them to great comedy effect. He really knows how to keep an audience captivated and amused. It is quite a lengthy show but doesn't drag at all.
Summing up, I really enjoyed Dave's adventure, I didn't find it as funny as the Dave Gorman Collection but still very funny. Again it is the wide variety of people he meets and his uncanny ability to find comedy value in the strangest things that really bring this adventure to life. I wouldn't advise allowing children to watch this show as although most of it is innocent there is a small amount of swearing.
The DVD also contains a very cheesy music video based on the show. There is also a book of the adventure that goes into quite a lot more detail, I would recommend watching the DVD first before reading the book.
Recommended.
P.S. His middle name is actually James.
