Advantages: Good use of visuals

Disadvantages: pace can be hard to keep up with

Dave Gorman takes his acclaimed book Googlewhack on to stage and it works really well. A googlewhack is when you go on to google and type in two different words and only one result comes up something that is very rare. Dave Gorman takes it upon himself to not only find googlewhacks, but actually go and visit the googlewhacks wherever they be in the world.
Thus this stand-up takes us through his journey and the people he meets and the googlewhacks he finds. Gorman's style is like a lecturer at universty. He uses slides effectively so the audience have a picture of the people he met in their minds. His use of props keeps the visual element to the audience so they are always involved. The greatest humour comes from the night outs he has particularly the one where he ends up with a bizarre tatoo.
Gorman proves he is a great storyteller keeping the audience involved particularly as he is not a stereotypical comedian.
Some may find the pace of the show too fast to keep up with and some of the terms like googlewhack do need to be explained thoroughly, but this doesn't upset the balance of the show.
The DVD extras are extensive. There is a live audience Q and A session that makes up for the lack of banter during the main part of the DVD. There is also out-takes, a running commentary and a picture gallery.
If you enjoyed the book then you'll enjoy the DVD.
