Advantages: Really does make you feel it working

Disadvantages: Very repatitive

I am in serious need of loosing a bit of weight at the moment. After my illness, I put on quite a bit of weight, which has made me quite self conscious if I'm honest. I have been trying to do some exercises at the gym, but can never seem to find the time due to college and work, and plus always seem to do it wrong and spend the next day passed out on the floor.

Then my aunt recommended this. Davina McCall: High Energy Five. It involves 5 high energy workouts which work on different parts of your body and slowly and healthily help you loose weight.

The Workouts

WARMUP: Davina expresses that you must do the warm-up before each workout. It's 10 minutes long and takes you through some gentle warm ups to warm up your muscles. Easy to follow, but gets so tedious. The warm-up and the cool down, slightly annoy me. They are both 10 minutes long, which seems quite a long time to do a warm-up for and the first time we did it, me and my little sister were almost dead after those 10 minutes.

AEROBICS: This section is not for the feint hearted. It's hard, and feels like you are doing it for hours and not 20 minutes. This section is probably the most boring of the DVD, it's very repetitive and the fact that you feel so out of breath throughout makes you get even more annoyed with doing the same exercises over and over again.

LEGS/TUSH: I did this one today, followed by the aerobics and I have to say it is done quite well. It's a lot of lunges and squats but you can feel it working. It's not actually my legs/ass that are hurting at the moment, it's my arms from the aerobics and pump section last night. I have been warned however, my ass will probably hurt to high heaven tomorrow.

PUMP: This section means you need to use some light weights, which we didn't have so we improvised and I used two bottles of water and my sister used our two wii remote controls. It works on your biceps and triceps, which means it gets rid of your bingo wings. I have to say, this one was done giggling our way through, due to the fact I was drinking the water as we were doing it, so at the end of the session I had one full bottle and one empty bottle. It does seem like one of the best on the DVD however.

ABDOMINALS: OW. This section hurts; I have problems with my left wrist and recently my back so had to sit out through the pushups section, as I am pretty sure that If I did what they were doing, my wrist would give out. This section doesn't however seem to feel like it's worked. I've got no pain like I do from the pump and aerobics section. It just left me falling asleep because I used pillows for mats and got quite bored with this section.

BOXING: This section is very repetitive, however it works. It's very effective on the arms, legs and stomach. It really does get you out of breathe, but I think after playing on the Wii sports version of boxing, I found that more strenuous.

COOLDOWN: This section again is 10 minutes long and royally gets on my nerves. It just seems very repetitive and unnecessary. It's probably why I'm in so much pain now, but it's quite a boring section as it's too long.

My Opinion

I can feel it's working in my biceps/triceps and calfs so I think those workouts are very good, but the DVD as a whole is very repetitive. Like I said at the start I'm not the weight I wanna be, but don't really think this will do what I want. I don't have bingo wings or cankles, but my abs and thighs do need toning however this doesn't seem to feel like it's working here.

Davina tells you at the start to always do the warm-up and then the cool down at the end. She also suggests doing 2 workouts back to back 3 times a week. This means you should be doing a hours worth of exercising 3 times a week. Now college is finished for the summer, I do have extra time and will hopefully be doing it about 3 times a week, but I do believe that because it's so repetitive I will probably get bored.

I think if you're overly fit already and just wanna tone up your body, this is a good DVD. I do believe it's best for the arms as I'm struggling to open a bottle of coke let alone do the workout again.

Hope this helped and on a final note: owwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwww

Summary: Good for a while, but is too repatitive.
