A video nasty from 1981, Dead and Buried is a big-budget American horror which is a bit too respectable to sit with the sleazy dregs that make up most of the nasties list. It was re-released pretty quickly after the video nasty furore had died down without anyone really caring. It's made with a great deal of technical proficiency and professionalism; whether this makes it more or less interesting than the other nasties is debatable, though. In the small town of Potters Bluff a group of the townsfolk have taken to murdering tourists. I saw this film again last night, for the first time in many years, and was very impressed by how well it had aged. I still found it to be a creepy classic, which successfully mixes a slow-burning atmosphere with some effective gore scenes. The film is set in Potter's Bluff, a small seaside town in that popular heartland of horror, New England, USA. Far from being a friendly, quaint little village, Potter's Bluff has been the scene for a series of odd deaths, mostly of strangers or vagrants who are unfortunate enough to pass through the area. As the sheriff investigates, sinister things start to happen, with more killings, whose supposed victims ...
