Death Note is based on a Japanese anime show and manga series.
I am still fairly new to the anime scene, so haven't watched the anime yet, but i watched this film the other night and felt i had to write a review on it!

It is set in Japan, with a college student Light stumbling across the Death Note. When you write someone's name in the Death Note they die. Light starts to realise he can manipulate these deaths, by putting the exact times and ways in which people will die. He targets criminals that he sees on the news, and soon an investigation team are on the case, with his father running the investigation!

He soon becomes a suspect in the eyes of L, a genius working with the police team investigating the suspicious deaths and has to find a way of clearing his name.

I really enjoyed this film, it had a good few twists and turns towards the end, ones that i certainly wasn't expecting at all! It was also very different from what i was expecting. I have now bought Death Note 2, so will be reviewing that when i have watched it as well!
