Advantages: For the boys the lap dancing scene/
Disadvantages: The entire film.
When it comes to picking DVD's I'm really not all that fussy and am happy to watch anything that my other half desires and usually end up really enjoying the film and when he decided on thie Tarantino offering I was expecting something along the lines of Pulp Fiction or Reservoir Dogs but I was wrong.
The girls cast in this film don't appear to have any real talent apart from Zoe that is who is a real life stunt driver and we get to see her act out her first real stunt scene playing herself in a movie. Jungle Julia played by Sydney Poitier is just annoying in this film portraying an outgoing, dope smoking radio DJ whose main line in the film appears to be screaming with her gal pals each time she sees a bill board of her image on the road in Texas.
A familiar face that also appears in this film is Rose McGowan, who plays Pam who is the first passenger in "Death-Proof", you may remember her from the first Scream film where she came to a very painful end in her garage door and in this film her fate is pretty much of a similar manner.
*~*What's the story?*~*
The film revolves around character "Stuntman Mike" who appears to be well known in Texas as a former Hollywood Stunt race car driver and is played by Kurt Russell, but his character is not played all that well but this is mainly down to the poor script that he was given. "Stuntman Mike" appears to be an old time hero who likes nothing more than to sit and watch the girls go by but he has a secret that involves his "Death-proof" Car.
2 Groups of girls also set the idea for the storyline which strangely enough revolve in them taking road trips but the don't plan on "Stuntman Mike" joining them for the ride.
Despite all of Tarantino's other movies this one is great for those that don't really enjoy blood filled scenes as being brutually honest this is definately one of Tarantino's less violent movies out there and it is easy to see why this one is not as popular and has turned out to be somewhat of a flop.
*~*My Opinion*~*
For the men the best part of this film is the lap dancing scene which certainly gets their pulse racing but if you are looking for a nail biting action film, this isn't it.
The film never really gets going and the story, well in my opinion there is no real story and if there is then I got lost somewhere in the middle as did my partner and his best friend and to be honest they are quite good film buffs but for once I wasn't the only one left wondering what the hell was going on in this film from start to finish.
Within the first few scenes I start wondering if there is a problem with the DVD player or infact my television screen as the picture appears to be skipping but this is just a camera effect that has been added to what purpose I have no idea as to me it just ruined the picture quality. Needless to say this disappears as the movie gets going.
Within 50 minutes of watching this film, I was bored, my partner was confused and my friend was thinking that we were going to cut back to another points of view and all would become clear but unfortunately our thoughts remained the same until the credits rolled up on screen and we were left with big question marks over our heads as to what we had been watching for the last 109 minutes!
A huge disappointment even by my standards as I found it difficult to relate to any of the characters and the film seems to be revolving around a group of brainless bimbos with nothing better to do than promote drinking, driving and drugs and a psychopath who seems to have forgotten to give up his day job.
Summary: Don't waste your time watching this rent Pulp Fiction or another classic instead.

- 12/02/08 I never minded this myself. He meant to film it in the grainy and skipping effect to recreate those old classic Grindhouse films from the past. Good review though. |

- 12/02/08 Yeah, I've avoided this so far because of the negative reviews despite Kurt Russell supposedly being great as Stuntman Mike! You should try and catch Robert Rodriguez's half of the Grindhouse project. His section "Planet Terror" is demented genius (Rose McGowan with machine gun attachment blowing away mutants in a series of lap-dancing poses) compared to Tarantino's supposed failure... |

- 12/02/08 I've only heard bad things about this. |
