Premium Review Death Warrant (DVD): Same old, same old from the Muscles from Brussels (449 words)
by - written on 15/06/09 (Very useful, 56 readings)
Rating:

This 1990 prison action film from the Muscles from Brussels is nothing more than his standard action film, but is enjoyable nonetheless. I find that he never does anything particularly special, but there is something watchable about his films, with this one being no exception. Granted, there is nothing special about the film, the plot, the acting or the action, but the cheesy 80s backing music is all over the shop, as Van Damme plays an undercover cop in a prison, trying to solve a number of murders. The music makes it somewhat reminiscent of those Beverley Hills Cop movies, although this isn't wuite in the same league. Van Damme plays Burke, a ...  Read the complete review

Premium Review Van Damme again! (388 words)

Van Damme here plays a cop called Louis Burke, a man intent on hunting down The Sandman, a vicious underworld killer. After an altercation in an abandoned house, Van Damme is injured. Several months later, Burke is back at work and is immediately assigned an undercover job at a prison. Cynthia Gibb plays his would-be wife who helps him track down who is now killing inmates at this prison. Whilst there, Van Damme befriends some inmates who help him track down the killer. As he tries to avoid gang rapes, the occasional beating and his murderous inmates, more people are being killed. But who could it be? Death Warrant actually wasn't too bad. It ...  Read the complete review

To enjoy this film you would have to be a big Jean Claude Van Damme fan, unfortunately I'm not and only watched it under protest at the insistence of my other half and he does like martial arts films and anything closely related to them and as such he likes this sort of thing. In the film Van Damme is a police officer called Louis Burke who is sent undercover to work in a prison, his aim is to try and detect a killer who is on the lose inside the prison, naturally prison is full of gangs and peole who would like to hurt him so he spends lots of time beating people up and decidedly less time trying to solve the mystery of who the killer is, this is not ...  Read the complete review

So far today I have reviewed one very enjoyable and good film and one turkey dinner of a film well here is some more turkey for you all in the form of another straight to DVD offerring from John Claude Van Damme the muscles from Brussells whose muscles are more substantial than his acting ability that is for sure, having said that at least he looks in shape which is more than can be said for Steven Segal who also churns out this sort of dross that my other half so enjoys and makes me watch. In the film Van Damme is Louis Burke a police officer who is sent undercover to work in a prison trying to track down a killer on the inside. All the while he is forced to ...  Read the complete review
