Advantages: Pretty good special effects, The awful acting occasionally made me laugh
Disadvantages: The plot, the acting, basically everything
This movie certainly left a deep impact inside me; the fact of how awful it is. When I recall walking out of the cinema a (very true) phrase from a friend lodged in my mind: "Well that was bloody crap weren't it?" If you saw a trailer for Deep Impact you would certainly think that I am talking a load of old bull. In fact, the trailer should win an award for having the highest audience-pulling rate, while the actual movie should just be discarded in a dustbin, to be investigated by a group of alley cats who will hopefully rip out the insides of the video and replace it with their own excrement, unless the film already was a long strip of dried cat poo. The trailer pulled so many people to the cinemas basically from the special effects, notably the huge tidal wave that streaks through New York. The special effects are the only good point in the whole film, and are what earned this disgrace its one star. The acting is poor but is made to look good compared to the appalling plot. In fact, the only actor (or actress in this case) to give a convincing performance was Tea Leoni (Nicholas Cage's wife in 'The Family Man', which is sure to come out on video soon). To be fair, the last half hour of this two-hour long disappointment was average, in other words when the comet hits, but overall... to be missed, at all costs. The morale of this story is: DON'T JUDGE A FILM BY ITS TRAILER. The reason why I'll be giving Pearl Harbour a miss.
