Deep WHAT??? (Deep Impact (DVD))

Advantages: Nice graphics, Fairly realistic

Disadvantages: A few unlikelyhoods

First of all, who is in the film:

Tom Beck - Morgan Freeman
Jenny Lerner - Tea Leoni
Spurgen Tanner - Robert Duvall
Leo Biederman - Elijah Wood


The basic plot of the film is that Leo Biederman spots a comet heading for the Earth, and contacts a professional astronomer with the news. The astonomer realises what is going to happen, and races to inform the government. Unfortunately he gets distracted driving and crashes his car, meaning that the critical information is lost for some time.

Eventually Jenny Lerner stumbles upon what she thinks is a scandal brewing in the White House - maybe the president is having an affair with a coman called Ellie. Eventually she figures out the Ellie isn`t a person - rather it is an acronym, E.L.E, meaning Extinction Level Event.

She ends up confronting the president about this, and is on the front line when the news is passed to the rest of the world. America has a plan to try and destroy the comet, using nuclear weapons to blow it apart. Incidentally this is probably the worst thing you could possibly do to a comet - you`ll just make lots of smaller comets which would cause more damage. Anyway, the plan fails and time passes, with the people of Earth thinking it is the end. The president announces a second plan to house hundreds of thousands of people in a large bunker untilt he danger has passed.

Eventually we see the comet hitting the Earth, creating huge tidal waves that engulf whole cities. The scenes here are very good - apparently very indicitive of what would really happen if a comet did hit the Earth.

Suffice to say the world survives, and we get to see the President making a speach from the remains of the White House, saying we have survived, and now we must honour the people who dies by building a better future.

There are plot twists and turns that I haven`t given away, but the main plot is well worth watching. If you hav
en`t seen Deep Impact yet I can strongly reccomend it.
