Defiance is a film starring the awesome Daniel Craig (aka James Bond), as one of three Jewish brothers (the Bielski's) in Nazi-occupied Eastern Europe who go into hiding in the woods, eluding the Germans and eventually taking in other refugees. It's a true, moving and harrowing story of a fight for survival against all the odd's. By the end of the war, they number over a thousand. Which in itself is an amazing tale. These men, managed to protect, feed and house, through gruelling winters, a thousand jew's who would otherwise have ended up in the Ghettos and probably fallen foul of Hitlers "Final Solution". The Jewish faith is seen as a peaceful one and traditionally Jews are known as a people against violence. Although in sentiment this may be true, this does not mean that they cannot kick ass when they want to! Hitler and co. tried their best to wipe them all out and blinkered people would have you believe that all the Jews walked peacefully to their death. This was never the case and some recent films have shown that some Jews fought back. 'The Pianist', 'Black Book' and 'Inglorious Basterds' range in levels of truth, but all have fighting men and women who also happen to be Jewish. The aptly named Defiance stars our newest Bond; Daniel Craig as Tuvia, one of four Bielski brothers, trying to escape the Nazis who are hunting down Jews everywhere around them. What starts as the four brothers escaping through a dense forest builds up to form a small alliance. The movie is over two hours and both the beginning and end are exciting and interesting but it does seem to lose its way in the middle. Obviously this is a difficult job for Edward Zwick and the movie relies on the excellent performances from Craig and Liev Schreiber.
