Seems like every time I switch on the television there is something Ryan Reynolds related showing, and no wonder, given he's pretty hot right now with films 'The Green Lantern' and 'The Change Up', also named Sexiest Man Alive. So this film 'Definitely, Maybe' was clearly a ploy to get us to recognise such an actor and hence see his movies.
~~~THOUGHTS ON PLOT~~~
Will (Ryan Reynolds) decides to tell his daughter Maya (Abigail Breslin) a love story revolving around how he met her mother and the other women he dated before her, though he changed the names, making her try to work out who's who.
Leaving the small town of Wisconsin for New York, and college sweetheart Emily (Elizabeth Banks), Will meets April (Isla Fisher) and Summer (Rachel Weisz) as he progresses through the highs and lows of his political career as a speechwriter, but as each woman comes and goes, who really is Maya's mother?
I thought the story was pretty predictable in who it definitely wasn't, though I was surprised at who it was, and the ending was pretty predictable, but first, the pace of the film was pretty quick in that we are launched pretty much straight into Will's love story after a hilarious opening of Maya leaving school after having been taught sex ed.
Anyway, all the different women that come and go all have different personalities though my favourite was Isla Fisher who clearly had the best chemistry with Ryan Reynolds and they made a great couple.
Favourite quotes:
April: "I need life rehab?" *slaps Will*
Maya: Why did Emily have to "rehearse" (reference to having sex) with Charlie?
~~~CAST~~~
Ryan Reynolds- Will
Isla Fisher- April
Rachel Weisz - Summer
Elizabeth Banks- Emily
Abigail Breslin - Maya
~~~OVERALL~~~
It was an enjoyable movie though the ending was somewhat dragged out but I'm happy for how it ended, as it should've been those two together so I'm glad it worked out. However, I wouldn't watch those other Ryan Reynolds films based on this performance, but I know he can do so much better having seen other films such as The Proposal and Buried.
Summary: Keeps you guessing
