Deja Vu (DVD) ... DVD released 14 May, 2007 at Walt Disney Studios Home Entertainm / Features of the DVD: Anamorphic, PAL / In his most effective thriller since Enemy of the State, Tony Scott makes time travel seem plausible. It helps that his New Orleans hero, ATF agent Doug Carlin (Denzel Washington in his third go-round with the director), spends more time in the present than the past. In order to catch a terrorist, FBI Agent Pryzwarra (Val Kilmer) invites Carlin to join forces. They have the technology to see the past. He has the expertise to interpret the data. Unfortunately, the bomb has already gone off and hundreds of ferry passengers have died. Then there's the body of a beautiful woman, Claire Kuchever (Paula Patton, Idlewild), that turns up in the vicinity of the blast. Evidence indicates she was killed beforehand. Since the FBI enables him to observe Claire prior to her murder, Carlin gets to know what she was like and finds himself falling in love. He becomes convinced that the only way to solve the case--and prove her innocence--is to travel to the past. But as Pryzwarra's colleague, Denny (Adam Goldberg), argues, "You cannot go back in time. It's physically impossible." Or so he says. Déjà Vu is constructed around a clever script and executed by a top-notch cast, notably Washington, Patton, and an eerie Jim Caviezel (miles away from Passion of the Christ). In shedding the excesses of recent years--the sadism of Man on Fire and weirdness of Tarantino favorite Domino--Scott re-affirms his rep as one of the action movie's finest practitioners. --Kathleen C. Fennessy

... the troubles of violent events like terrorism. The plot plays out well, Val Kilmer doesn't really add all that much to his role as the leader of the FBI time surveillance squad. The guy who plays the lead scientist is pretty good but the young lady whose murder Denzel is trying to solve doesn't really bring much to her role at all. Anyone could have played that role and most likely would have done a much better job than her. It's pretty obvious that Denzel will eventually time travel at some point during the movie ...more

Premium Review Deja Vu (DVD): Have I seen this film before Mr Bruckhiemer? (959 words)

With sexy Denzel Washington sniffing an Oscar with ‘American Gangster’, what better way to warm up for that with this cracking action thriller, a real surprise. The guy is so good at this type of countdown action genre he makes any script look good, his stand alone detective against the world routine the best out there, how ever preposterous the script is, as the case is here. He did it in the enjoyable ‘Out of Time’, a much under rated thriller and was brilliant in Crimson Tide with director Tony Scott, this their third film together. I think he’s the coolest movie star out there right now and that screen presence makes you want to rent or pack the multiplexes on a ...

Denzel Washington teams up with director Tony Scott again for Deja Vu (Previous film Man On Fire). He stars in this movie as Doug Carlin a police agent with the ATF. A ferry filled with navy crew & their families explodes at the very beginning of the film, killing over 543 people. Doug is on the scene immediately trying to find clues as to why this has occurred. Val Kilmer plays FBI Agent Paul Pryzwarra leader of a new unit which has been set up. Deciding that they like and trust Doug they decide to let him in on the new technology they have developed. Using the technology they hope that they can solve the case. It allows them to look anywhere ...

As we were lacking rentals on the list with Amazon my partner added some DVD's he thought we would both enjoy and when this one landed through the letterbox I was a bit apprehensive as to whether or not it was something I was likely to enjoy. Written by Bill Marsilii and Terry Rossio and directed by Tony Scott and produced by Jerry Bruckheimer this is an action, drama, romance, thriller and sci-fi all rolled into one so they were certainly trying to cover all bases with this movie. Released in the Cinema in December 2006 I was suprised not to have heard anything about this movie before but then this was over 2 years ago and my memory is not the best ...
