Advantages: Fun film

Disadvantages: None really

This was the first film to geature Madonna and to be honest it is probably her best one as well, mind you given some of the turkeys she has appeared in that is no great shakes, even former hubby Guy Ritchie lost his midas directorial touch when he encountered Madge.

I guess this film fits into a sort of comedy drama of sorts with a bit of romance thrown in as well, the real star of the film those is Rosanna Arquette who plays a bored suburban housewife with a slimy cheating husband, she is called Roberta and she likes to read the classified ads, she is obsessed with an advert that appears every now and again which begins Desperately Seeking Susan and then sets up a meeting point, the Susan in question is a free spirit played by Madonna who lives a rather transient life scheming and blagging money while dressed in a rather funky individual style, to be honest probably not too different to a young Madonna in New York anyway. The ads are placed by her boyfrend of a sort Jimmy who plays in a punk band.

When she sees they are due to meet she turns up to watch them and follows Susan, little does she know that Susan has stolen some jewellry from a thief and now his former partner is trying to track her down, Roberta buys a jacket formerly owned by Susan and then is mistaken for her, receives a blow to the head and loses her memory, what then follows is a lot of mistaken identity and a romantic interest for Roberta.

This is a fun film that you do not want to take too seriously, it is light hearted fun and as such is an enjoyable film to watch. It has a number of humourous parts to it but they are not laugh out loud moments, this is not a true comedy, rather a quirky flm with some cool songs in it including a couple of early Madonna songs.

Arquette is excellent as the vulnerable slightly ditsy Roberta, she capttures the naive vulnerable character to a tee, my boyfriend had a real crush on her when he watched this film.

This is a nice film with some good music and is well worth watching.

Summary: Cool film
