... own way, Pal had the foresight to employ Heinlein to work directly on the film as an advisor. This is an attitude which I think plenty of today's movie producers could learn from - they should treat the writer with a little more respect. However, although in his novels Heinlein's forte is his characterisations, it is in this area that the film falls short. Released in 1950, DESTINATION MOON was one of the first science fiction movies of the 1950s. Although it was directed by Irving Pichel, it was in reality a George Pal movie - he was the producer, and he went on to make a number of other science fiction movies in the same style, including WHEN WORLDS COLLIDE. DESTINATION MOON was based on a novel by my favourite science fiction authors, if not my favourite author of all time (the novel was called ROCKET SHIP GALILEO).
