Once again another American TV show has become amazingly popular and once again I only heard about it afterwards! I picked up the first series after hearing rave reviews about this latest tv show.

The show follows blood spatter analyst Dexter Morgan as he completes his work for the Miami Police Department. Dexter however has a secret, he has a passion for murdering people...

The show details Dexter's life and how he tries to deal with his addiction to killing people, this mostly involves only killing people who do evil things and have escaped proper justice. What makes the show so special is the fact that Dexter has to deal with the trials and tribulations of real life like a sister who can't become a homicide detective, a detective who is suspicious of him and a boss who is attracted to him. Although quite a dark series the way in which Dexter conducts himself can prove quite funny especially under the many situations that he finds himself in during the first season. The season also provides many twists and turns which proves vital for keeping your attention and many times you will gasp with whatever new piece of information is presented to you.

My only real fault with the season is that it's extremely short, there are only 12 episodes and after watching them all you'll be left wanting more. Thankfully now the 2nd season is also available for purchase and seasons 3 & 4 are on their way, so there should be plenty of Dexter to keep everyone entertained. Also because it is a very dark program this is definately not suitable for younger viewers, it is certainly a show for over 18's only due to the high amounts of blood, swearing, drug and sex references.

Overall this is a great series and despite my initial reservations I've become a massive fan of Dexter and can't wait to start watching the rest of series 2!
