Dial M for Murder was a 1954 Warner Bros film production based on a stage play of the same name by an English playwright Frederick Knott. The film was directed and produced by the legendary Alfred Hitchcock and starred Ray Milland, Grace Kelly, Robert Cummings, John Williams and Anthony Dawson. The film runs for 1 hour 25 minutes and is certified PG in the UK. Margot (Kelly), a woman of means, is married to Tony Wendice (Milland), who is a retired professional tennis player, who now sells sports equipment. Dial M for Murder is a typically good Hitchcock thriller. It is slick with a well written script and a story line which has prompted remakes. The recent remake being 'A Perfect Murder' with Gwyneth Paltrow. Dial M for Murder is definitely superior. It is a good, atmospheric thriller about a man who plans to murder his wife because she is having an affair. Whilst Dial M for Murder follows the trend of other Hitchcock masterpieces like 'Suspicion' with Cary Grant, which also deal with man's temptation to murder his wife, this film is perhaps not as memorable as some of his other work.
