Dirty Dancing - why do i assume everyone has seen this movie ? Along with Grease i thought everyone had watched it. I found out earlier this week my friends hadn't even heard of it. Where have they been ?
The main cast of Dirty Dancing starrs Jennifer Grey, Patrick Swayze, Cynthia Rhodes and Jerry Orbach. This fantastic film is written by Eleanor Bergstein and directed by Emile Ardolino.

Dirty Dancing was made in 1987, but it set in 1963 in the summer. The film tells of a spoilt 17 year old girl exploring and developing into a young woman. Frances Houseman, otherwise known as 'baby' goes on a family holiday to the Kellermanns, in the Catskill Mountains. Here is where Baby discovers a whole now different life. Baby who, is a goody two shoes and never does anything wrong, was never one to indulge in raunchy dances and late nights. But when she is invited to a party she developes a crush on the popular sexy dancer Johnny Castle, played beautifully by Patrick Swayze. Johnny seems way out of Baby's leaque, hes talented, professional and very popular, Johnny and his dance partner Penny Johnson (Cynthia Rhodes) are performing that night and Baby is mesmerised. This is when Baby decides she wants to learn all about what they do.

I could almost predict how the film was going to turn out when i first watched it, i was really impressed with how the story developed. One night Penny finds herself in big trouble and has to pull out of the performance at Sheldrake, leaving baby to fill in. Baby had two left feet and couldn't dance to save her life, so who better to teach her ? none other than Johnny Castle. There are some really funny scenes with baby laughing as Johnny has to run his fingers down her arm, which obviously tickles her, and Johnny gets irritated when baby cannot pick up the lift at the end - which she fails to do on the night too. Tempers flare, tears and laughter but it is quite obvious a romance is developing. Things don't go smoothly for Johnny and Baby there are lots of ups and downs, her father Jake is against this from the word go. Jake believes Johnny is a bad one and Baby should steer clear, but she does the opposite and rebels against her father.

As the romance continues and progresses, Johnny and Baby have to keep this a secret against his boss and baby's father and family. Which i find is such a touching scene. My favourite scene is where Baby and Johnny are learning their final routine outside on a log just above the water, baby needs to learn how to balance, will she make it ? She also has to master that lift again, and repeatedly falls in the water. But a secret never stays a secret and the truth comes out about they young lovers, which puts Johnny's job on the line. Johnny is also accused of stealing a wallet from a cabin the same night and not long after is fired and decides to leave. Will his love for Baby be enough to bring him back for the final dance ? Will baby's father ever welcome Johnny into the family ? You must buy this film and find out.

What did i think of this film ?

I really enjoyed watching it and it is a film i can repeat all the time, it's one of my all time favourites. There are lots of songs played in the film that gives it such a 'feel good' vibe. The soundtrack to the movie ' The Time Of My Life' is my favourite, this song has actually sold around 40 million worldwide. Some of my favourite songs played in the movie are Hungry Eyes, Stay, Just a little bit longer, She's like the wind and many more. The acting was amazing and i found the chemistry played between Patrick and Jennifer was outstanding, they feed off each other really good and work well together. This film is a typical chick flick and is a must see, i know plenty of males who like this too. I fully recommend this film to you all.
