Advantages: Entertaining, fun, romantic, addicitive, a brilliant chick flick

Disadvantages: Cheesy in parts but its not necessarily a bad thing

Since the recent and tragic death of actor Patrick Swayze, i felt compelled to watch one of my favourite films, Dirty Dancing. It hit our screens in 1987 and was a romance starring Patrick and Jennifer Grey.

The story centres around Jennifers character Baby who goes on summer vacation with her family at Kellermans resort. It is set in the summertime of 1963.

A rebellious daughter, she meets Patrick Swayzes character Johnny Castle while he is dancing with staff at an after hours party. He dances with her once when he spots her and she is blown away by him. Babys father is a doctor and her family are quite well off.

Baby develops a crush on Johnny and hears that Johnnys dance partner Penny is pregnant by a waiter called Robbie. Worse still is that Babys sister has started seeing Robbie in secret and Baby doesnt want the same thing to happen to her. She knows how badly Robbie has treated Penny and is worried for her sister.

Baby borrows money from her father to pay for an illegal abortion for Penny and fills in as Johnnys dance partner at an upcoming show. Johnny teaches Baby to dance properly and the two start to fall for each other. Will their romance go smoothly or will it all end in tears?

I wont tell the whole story as i dont want to ruin it for those who havent seen it yet.

Dirty Dancing has been one of my favourite films for years and i always dreamed of dancing like Baby with a total hunk like Johnny. Its a really romantic story and i love it along with the great soundtrack that it has. Most girls i know talk of this film very fondly and love it just as much as me.

Dirty Dancing is a real cultural phenomenon similar to that of Grease. Although a lot of this film is a bit cheesy, i still love it and will continue to watch it for years to come. Well recommended!
