Advantages: The amazing storyline and spectacular dancing
Disadvantages: I'd love to have seen more of Johnny and Baby dancing together.
What is there not to love about this film?!? It has to be the best and most memorable dance film of all time. It came out in the late eighties but the film is set in the 1960's in America. The film is centred around a holiday camp where Patrick Swayze plays a dance teacher called Johnny. Jennifer Grey plays the role of an innocent girl called Baby on holiday with her family. What ensues is a love story between the 2 characters - an unlikely meeting of minds but the chemistry between the characters is undeniable. Throughout the film different themes are explored such as abortion, losing virginity and theft but these dark ish themes are offset against the sheer joy at watching the love develop between Johnny and Baby.
If you enjoy watching dancing then you will love the dancing scenes in this film. There are a couple of memorable scenes whereby the young population of the holiday camp engage in what can only be described as 'dirty dancing' and the final dance scene is one not to be missed. It will give you goosebumps. The acting is also of a high quality and there is some great music throughout, songs such as 'She's like the wind' and 'Hungry Eyes'
This film could be bought in stores such as HMV but it's probably best to get it on Amazon for around £7-£8.
Summary: A fantastic film with superb dancing scenes in it.
