Advantages: dancing, good soundtrack
Disadvantages: predictable
This is a very famous film and almost every single person who sees it rates it highly and sees it again on numerous occasions, and I am no exception to this rule. The story is set on a holiday camp where Baby (Jennifer Grey) spends the summer with her family, while there she meets one of the dancers (Patrick Swayze). Due to a problem with his usual dancing partner Baby is required to perform with him in a show and so he begins to teach her the dance. Many aspects of the film could be called predictable, as it is a Romance, however it still manages to maintain the magic and attract a very large audience. This film is indeed a classic and I watched it as a child without fully understanding the storyline, I was kept entertained by the dance scenes. It is only when I returned to watch this film again when i was old enough to understand that I saw how it tackled several subjects, such as sex, love and family. As with any Romance film it needs something different in order to attract people to watch it and this is acheived via the dancing, which never ceases to amaze those who watch it. Jennifer Grey's representation of a teen girl faling in love for the first time and loosening the ties she has with her father is amazing and very true to life. I enjoyed the film and have never heard a particularly bad review from anyone else and I'm sure that if you watch it you will understand the attraction and i would definitely recommend it. Even if you are not usually interested in these types of films you may be pleasantly suprised by it.
