Advantages: Copey was amazing!

Disadvantages: Could be a little strange for some people

I've watched this twice now and would happily go and watch it again without any persuasion. It really is one of the best films that I have seen in quite a while and it totally lived up to all of the hype it was given.

An Alien ship has landed over South Africa and the humans have decided to break inside to see if there is any life. When they finally get in they come across more than they bargain for. The aliens are severely undernourished so the humans feed them and put them in a secluded area. Over time the humans and Aliens start to fight so someone has the huge task of evicting them from their homes before re-housing them somewhere else. The job falls upon Wikus (Sharlto Copey)And he gets more than he's bargained for when he enters one of the aliens houses.

I was blown away by how Copey carried the whole film. He's not known in the acting world but he was the main character and did a convincing and outstanding job. I actually felt that the aliens were around him and talking to him and forgot that they were computer generated long before the film ended and I do feel this was down to the acting which was so strong throughout.

One thing that was very strange was how my emotions changed towards the aliens. At first I was a little scared of them and felt that they were vigilantes that had no feelings or care for humans but as the film progressed, I found myself feeling sorry for them and finally nearing the end I was willing them to do well and survive.

The film has a definite sci-fi feel to it which is why I'm really surprised that I liked it because I am far from a Star Wars fan! I think because the director did a good job at building characters and emotion, it had more appeal than any sci-fi film I've ever seen.

I think one of the things that I loved about the film was the fact that it was a documentary (not a real one obviously). I felt that it was such a clever idea that really worked although I was a little 'thrown' when the film started because I wasn't sure what to expect and knew nothing about the film.

For those of you who like romance then there is a little that is carried throughout the whole film so you should have your Kleenex out and ready!

I should mention that there is a fair bit of swearing in the film and there is plenty of blood and gore too so it may not be appropriate for some people.

This film is full of action, sci-fi, drama and emotion and it had me hooked from beginning to end. I can however see how it's not everyone because it is a strange storyline which is rather bizarre in places. It's definitely an aquired taste but how will you know if you like it if you don't watch it?

Summary: An excellent film!
