District 9 (DVD)
This is a supposed Sci fi movie and I was looking forward to seeing it.
The film is basicaly about a ship of extra terrstrial space ship that suddenly appears over Johannesburg carrying a band of creatures that are soon refered to as prawns by the humans.
The movie then jumps twenty years later where you see the aliens being forced to live in squalour in a shanty town called district 9.
They love to eat tinned cat food (why?).
A munitions company called multi national united have been given the contract to forcibly evict the aliens from the town.
Wikus van der merwe is the man in charge of getting the aliens to sign the eviction notices and as he is doing so he gets sprayed by some concoction the aliens have been cooking up for the last twenty years and starts to mutate into one.
The thing is the aliens have some great weapons that can only be fired by them as they are bio controlled so can only be used by them.
The weapons boffins soon discover that Wikus is now able to fire these weapons and after subjecting him to tests he escapes and hides the only place he thinks he will be safe yes you guessed it District 9.
The movie is mostly filmed in documentary style which I found quite annoying.
The aliens are quite good if you are 12 years old.
The last half an hour was just about bearable but only if you enjoy a bit of blood and guts.
I would say it has been rated wrong and should be more like a 12.
Worth a watch if you want a laugh but don't expect too much.
Summary: only for a laugh
