Dr Dolittle is based on the book by Hugh Lofting, and a contemporary remake of the tacky musical starring Rex Harrison. Eddie Murphy stars as John Dolittle, a very successful doctor in San Francisco who leads a normal life. His daughter's guinea pig, Rodney, goes missing. Rodney later turns up whilst John is sleeping. John freaks out, as he hates guinea pigs. Hence the reference to 'rat' or 'rodent'. On his way home from work, he nearly collides with a dog who calls him a bonehead. After that, Dr Dolittle hears conversations between animals and birds. During a meeting with Calmed representatives, he overhears a squabble ... Read the complete review

This is a really good family film. Eddie Murphy plays a doctor who as a child could talk to animals. His parents made him stop this and as he grew up he forgot about it. I was prepared to be disappointed but haven’t just updated an old story but created a new story with the idea of someone who can communicate with animals. Dr Dolittle rediscovers his forgotten talent and starts to use it and his medical skills to help animals. Entwined with this are sub-plots about his relationship with his family particularly his youngest daughter and his medical practice which the partners are planning to sell to a big chain. There is also a sick & suicidal tiger to contend with. ... Read the complete review

Its been months since my last film review so I thought it was about time I branched into film reviews again. Why haven?t I reviewed any films for so long? Well, its simple, I?ve not seen any films for months! In fact, I?ve not watched TV for months either! I never have time to watch TV these days! That was until the other night when I saw Dr Dolittle on ITV. As a comedy fan, Eddie Murphy fan and animal fan this was a must-watch film for me! = = = Background info = = = I?m sure most people are aware of what Dr Dolittle is about. However, there are a few of you out there who aren?t too sure (my parents being prime ... Read the complete review

Producer: John Davis, Joseph Singer and David T. Friendly. Director: Betty Thomas. Writers: Hugh Lofting, Larry Levin and Nat Mauldin Starring: Eddie Murphy, Oliver Platt, Ossie Davis, Kristen Wilson Norm MacDonald and Chris Rock Released in the summer of 1998 this hour and 25 minute movie is roughly based on the book of the same name, following the rather unusual 'gift' of Doctor Dolittle. **BRIEF PLOT** With most children having imaginary friends it is not seen as too unusual when a young John Dolittle starts talking to his pet dog, only for the dog, (voiced by Ellen DeGeneres) to talk back, leading to ... As you can guess from the title this is about a man who can talk to the animals. Dr. Doolittle (brilliantly played by Eddie Murphy) is a married doctor with two children. He realises his forgotten talent when the pet hamster starts talking to him. Things just snowball from there and he soon has a whole variety of animals coming to him for help. These range from pigeons to a tiger from the nearby zoo. At the begining of the film he does not want his family knowing about this as he had an unfortunate episode as a child. The only problem is the animals insist on coming into his home for treatment, by knocking on the door can you believe? He has a devil of ... Read the complete review
