I was but a 10 year old lad when Earthshock was first shown in 1982. I had been a fan since early Season 18, and Dr Who had proved a constant source of drama and surprise. The Master!! Regeneration!! Terileptils!! The Mara!!! Bring me more! Then came Earthshock...it is difficult now to remember the tremors (excuse the pun, there may be one there!) this story threw around viewers and fandom. The return of the Cybermen was a really big deal then, arguably even more then their recent new series guises. It is obvious from word go that Earthshock is leading somewhere BIG. As The Doctor continues his travels through time and space, one of his young companions, Adric, is feeling increasingly dissatisfied. Complaining that the Doctor never really teaches him anything, he petulantly claims that he wishes to return home to E-Space, angering the Doctor and causing a heated argument. When the TARDIS lands on 26th century Earth, the Doctor, Tegan and Nyssa head out for some fresh air, whilst Adric remains on board the TARDIS to calculate the co-ordinates home. EARTHSHOCK is the 6th 'Doctor Who' story starring Peter Davison, who played the role from 1982 until 1984. This story was first broadcast in March 1982 and came near the end of Davison's first year. The story also Sarah Sutton as Nyssa, and Janet Fielding as Tegan - these two were The Doctor's female companions at the time, along with Matthew Waterhouse as the male companion Adric. The story has The Doctor and his companions in the 26th century getting involved in the disappearance of some geologists, which leads to further involvemenent with a group of Cybermen who are planning to blow up a peace conference.
