Doctor Who - Genesis Of The Daleks (2 DVDs) ... Entertain Video / Features of the DVD: PAL / One of the finest stories of the classic Doctor Who age, Genesis Of The Daleks finds Tom Baker at his peak in the lead role, and ultimately facing one of the most significant moral dilemmas of his era as the Time Lord. That’s alongside the small matter of his most infamous enemies. This is the adventure that goes right back to the roots of the Daleks, from their humble beginnings to the point where they become the Doctor’s most fearsome foes. Across the six episodes, we find that the Doctor has been sent to the planet Skaro, where he discovers the evil genius Davros, who is about to fully unleash his deadliest creations into the universe. Accompanied by Harry and Sarry, The Doctor also finds himself stuck in the middle of an ongoing war between the Thals and The Kaleds, in a story packed with danger and adventure. It’s also grounded in the kind of excellent storytelling that has frequently allowed classic Doctor Who to overcome its low budget roots. And Genesis Of The Daleks is one of the finest examples of just how it manages it. Thanks to a tightly woven script, and a strong cast led by Tom Baker at his finest in the lead role, Genesis Of The Daleks is rightly regarded as one of the best Doctor Who stories of all time. It really isn’t hard to see why.--Simon Brew

'Genesis of the Daleks' marks one of the high points of Doctor Who. Outgoing production team Barry Letts and Terrance Dicks commissioned the story from Terry Nation, creator of the Daleks, who had been writing for the show since its earliest days. On being presented with his latest story, however, it quickly became apparent that he had merely turned-out another tun-of-the-mill Dalek story - and any fan of the show will know what this means, with his other recent efforts such as Planet of the Daleks and Death to the Daleks treading little new ground. Instead, Messrs Letts and Dicks suggested that Nation go back to the beginning, and actually show the origins of the ...

GENESIS OF THE DALEKS is the 4th 'Doctor Who' story starring Tom Baker, and was first broadcast in March / April 1975. The story also stars Elisabeth Sladen as his companion Sarah Jane Smith, who recently appeared in her own Children's BBC series, THE SARAH JANE ADVENTURES, and Ian Marter as UNIT member Harry Sullivan (UNIT was the military group The Doctor sometimes worked with during the period of the show's production). The story is told over 6 episodes. The plot has The Doctor, Sarah and Harry caught in the middle of a war between the Thals and the Kaleds on the planet Skaro. The evil madman Davros has created a new race, the Daleks, and is about to ...

Genesis of the Daleks I am reviewing the two disk DVD set of the Tom Baker Doctor Who story “Genesis of the Daleks” I hadn’t seen this story in quite a while since UK Gold in around 1993/4 and as my interest was being revived again I saw this on BlahDVD.com for around £7 and thought why not. I remembered quite a bit about the story from the last time I watched it and this was another reason for buying it as I thought that this was one of the best stories ever made, and certainly in my top ten Who stories. I had always remembered the Daleks from a very early age as my earliest memory of the series was in 1977 and always looked ...
