So the countdown to regeneration has begun and for this episode of Doctor Who, this is the first of four specials that will be broadcast across the year with "main event" taking place at Christmas. I am very much a latecomer to the more current Doctor Who years. As a teenager, I watched a few of the older episodes, with various different actors playing the Doctor in his various reincarnations. A couple of years ago, my wife persuaded me to start watching the newer ones, with Christopher Eccleston and David Tennant, who managed, between them, to revive the character. Wandering around HMV with a voucher in my hand, I wasn't sure what I was looking for. Whenevrr I get vouchers of any sort, I find it almost impossible to keep the voucher until there is actually something in stock that I want. Instead I usually spend them on meaningless items I'll tire of within five minutes. I was determined to spend this HMV voucher, and it seemed that there was nothing I fancied. So, this is the beginning of the end, the 1st of the last 4 specials to feature the 10th Doctor, David "Ten Inch" Tennant (as Billie Piper refers to him). The story takes place mainly in San Helios (aka Dubai) after a bus the Doctor is travelling on drives through a wormhole in a London tunnel (though this tunnel is actually in Cardiff where the filming of Doctor Who usually happens).
