Premium Review A new companion emerges (806 words)
by - written on 11/08/08 (Very useful, 57 readings)
Rating:

From the very first episode back in 1963, Doctor Who has wowed audiences with its capacity to create something new with extreme imagination. The rebirth of Doctor Who in 2005 with Chrostopher Eccleston as the title role paved the way for a regeneration in the form of David Tennant. Billie Piper played Rose, the Doctor's travelling companion through the first and second series, but at the end of the second, she and the Doctor were separated permanently when she was forced to remain in a parallel universe. Series 3 isn't my favourite of the new Doctor Who series but it's pretty darn good. The Christmas Special isn't included in this volume, although it's included in the Complete series 3 DVD boxset, but it does include the episodes "Smith and Jones", "The Shakespeare Code" and "Gridlock". You kind of have to feel sorry for both Martha and Freema Agyeman since they both have to follow the much loved Rose and Billie Piper, but she does a great job in being the Doctor's companion. Martha Jones is very much in the shadow of Rose's memory and so very much feels like second best throughout the whole series but there's a few stark ...  Read the complete review

A new companion. A new style. A new Era. ***** Doctor Who started way back in 1963, with William Hartnell playing the Doctor! And his performance must have been so strong as we as a whole are still obsessed with this gripping programme, 44 years later! Since then, we have met 10 Doctors, and adored every one of them! This Doctor (10th) is played by the lovely David Tennant, living up-to-date adventures in his big blue box, more commonly known as a TARDIS. But the Doctor does not travel alone! He had lost his recent companion, Rose, in a battle on Earth and was set to travel on his own, but after a mishap at Christmas, he finds himself bumping ...  Read the complete review
