Advantages: Great on the edge of your seat episodes.

Disadvantages: Although it adds to the stroy line, Martha's secrecy regarding the Doctor makes you shout at the TV

In this volume of Doctor Who series 3 we have a cracking two-parter "Daleks in Manhattan" and "Evolution of the Daleks" and it's here where we finally discover where the Dalek from"Doomsday" disappeared to and it's 1930's New York. Here the Doctor meets the inhabitants of Hooverville, those who lost everything in the 1929 crash and have nowhere to go and of course The Daleks and a company boss ( under the ultimate control of the Daleks ) who is building the Empire state building and who shares many characteristics with the Daleks themselves. We also meet Tallulah ( 3 l's and a h ) and her love Lazlo who are soon parted when strange occurances lead to the disappearance of townsfolk like Lazlo and those Hooverville inhabitants. The Doctor takes it upon himself to find out what is going on and try to put a stop to the Dalek's plans of a new Dalek master-race ( half human, half Dalek, although more Dalek than human.) Along the way, we meet some pig-like men who carry out the dirty work of the Daleks and have a short lived life since their 'change' and the Doctor resorts to desperate measures to alter the Dalek's plans.

The third episode is that of "The Lazarus Experiment" where the seeds of Martha's family's fate are sown when they meet The Doctor and see how close Martha has become to him. They become to fear this attachment however as they learn of some untruths about the Doctor from a certain source, a source as yet unknown to the viewer. Throughout this time, the Doctor becomes involved with the experiments of Professor Lazarus, again the source behind these traps are as yet unknown but will become clearer by the finale of Series 3.

The final episode of Series 3 volume 2 is that of "42" and is a corker of an epsiode. The Doctor and Martha have 42 minutes within which to save themselves and the crew of a spacecraft on the verge of crashing into a burning star and burning up. Some characters have to reach the engine room to push the spacecraft away from the burning star by answering quiz type questions set by the crew themselves, although there's a few tricky-question moments. Martha is part of the duo in charge of this part of the mission but things don't quite go according to plan when members of the crew are taken over by a form of light-force and sabbatage the rescue efforts, leading to Martha and her co-worker drifting further and further towards the burning star in an escape pod. Of course The Doctor pulls out the stops to try and save her and her companion whilst trying to solve the problem of the 'light force' hijacking the bodies of the crew. The Doctor himself is in danger at one point but realises what they must do to save themselves. A touching episode which not only highlights The Doctors determination to help those around him, regardless of what it may cost him, but also the relationship between Martha and her Mother when Martha calls home whilst she's in the escape pod with no hope of rescue.

Summary: Series 3 continues with some great action-packed storylines.

Too much of a synopsis and not enough of a review.
