I was not around at the time, but I imagine that the departure of Susan at the end of "The Dalek Invasion Of Earth" must have been a jarring experience for 1960s Doctor Who audiences. These days we're used to the cast changing on a regular basis, but this was the first time in the show's history that a main member of cast left. It seems therefore fitting that the next story, and the first of this double pack - "The Rescue" - is largely concerned with introducing the audience to the new companion Vicki.
