Advantages: more action and adventure, excellent entertainment

Disadvantages: none

With the 2006 series of Doctor Who finished and Rose Tyler no more, the Doctor, (played by David Tennant) is now alone in the TARDIS... but not for long... as a very mystified looking lady, dressed in a white wedding dress emerges inside the little blue box...

In this hour long Christmas special episode, aired on Christmas day 2006, sees Catherine Tate as Donna Noble, a rather loud and very feisty young lady whose life is turned upside down on her wedding day....

Writer: Russell T. Davis
Director: Euros Lyn,
Producers: Phil Collinson, Russell T. Davis and Julie Gardner

* BRIEF PLOT

With the Doctor puzzled by the sudden appearance in the TARDIS of Donna Noble in a wedding dress he realises something is not quite how it should be, especially when the aggressive Donna starts accusing him of abduction...

The Doctors plan to return Donna to her wedding ceremony doesn't quite go as smoothly as he wanted, with the re-appearance of the robot scavengers dressed as Santa Claus causing great suspicion that there is something much bigger about to come to Earth, he realises that it is Donna who is the key to the entire situation...

With a car chase to end all car chases the race is on for the Doctor to save the 'helpless' Donna from harm...

As the story unfolds it becomes clear to the Doctor what is so important about Donna and the connection with her fiancée Lance Bennett, (Don Gilet). Then with the appearance of a very frightening and rather unusual creature who wishes to forage the planet for the sake of her young... for which Donna Noble is needed, but only in a certain state, to achieve her goal...

The Doctor is faced with a choice... genocide of one race to save another... the ultimate decision to make for a Time Lord....

** IN CONCLUSION **

Another brilliant 'special' for Christmas day... the fast paced action really does entertain and will keep you glued to the television in anticipation...

I was a little dubious when I heard that the comedian Catherine Tate would be involved in such a big way...(with her sketches on her television series being comical, but to extend her abilities into an hour long 'sketch' would test he capabilities to the extreme)... but I was quite pleased with how she came across, although I did see a couple of her 'Catherine Tate Show' characters in the expressions and voices of Donna, but this really did nothing to spoil her role as the frightened, and very frightening, Doctors assistant... in fact, she acts the part surprisingly brilliant, bringing a very good amount of humour into what is an emotionally orientated special edition...

David Tennant is still the same old Doctor, his teeth clenching display of emotions seeming to be the norm, almost like one of the family now... He really does seem to be enjoying his role as the Time Travelling hero...

The story is well written, although does seem a little daft in places, (but this is Doctor Who so you should expect some silliness), and the evil baddie is quite a scary piece of work, (the creator of this eight legged beast having one weird imagination).

In all a fine piece of work which will be enjoyed by many, if not all, who sit down to watch... it has everything that is needed for a good hours entertainment, having suspense, thrills, action, comedy and a form of car chase, and with some great acting what more can it offer?

Also, for future reference, it does have some hidden messages leading onto future episodes, but as you really need to see the future episodes, (which have been made), you will only see these clues as irrelevant words... such as the name Harold Saxon.

* Would I recommend this...?
Yes I definitely would.
It is as silly as all the other episodes of Doctor Who and is exactly what you should come to expect from the show... silliness, entertainment, action and some edge of your seat suspense...
