Advantages: some funny bits, and vince vaughn saves it from direness
Disadvantages: Ben stiller is very irritating and some lines fall flat
I really did not like this movie at all. I will actively avoid it at all costs and heres why...
The storyline is just stupid. i reckon thats the point and when I first saw it, decided to let that slide and see what gems could be found elsewhere in the characters, sub plots or laughs.
Unfortunately I was pretty disappointed.
Vince Vaughn, who I usually love, didnt do too bad, and I found his lines quite funny. He is an owner of a small gym and owes alot of money to the dreaded tax man, he is worried that his gym will be bought and taken over by Ben Stillers character.
It is him that ruins the movie for me, I just dont find him funny at all, and certainly cannot envision him as a bad guy. He is far too over the top in many of the movies that he stars in, and while that may be just his style, i find it hugely irritating.
He is not a balievable character and I would have much preferred a believeable character delivering lines with comedic timing and not a stupid accent and weird facial expression.
I must admit that some bits are pretty darn funny, but these are few and far between, and usually dont involve Stiller.
I have never been a fan of all out, nonsesical comedy and this did nothing to change my mind. Yes it got a few giggles, but then its hard not to laugh when grown men are having wrenches thrown at them.
I was actually pleased that the predictable ending did happen and that there wasnt some random twist to be had in order to get more funnies.
There wasnt really any redeeming features and I can say that this is my least favourite film, just doesnt puch my buttons unfortunately. Most guy films I enjoy, but not this one, I think I'll leave it to the boys this time.
Summary: this comedy aint that funny
