Advantages: Some good special effects, twists and turns towards the end
Disadvantages: Largely unlikeable characters
Donkey Punch is a hit and miss horror & crime type film, there's quite a lot of swearing, sex scenes, violence and drug taking, if that doesn't put you off consider moving to Harlem! Done on a relatively low budget, Donkey Punch seems to be part
The film does seem a bit unbalanced though, to start off with the camera consistently has a sort of budget shakiness to it, the kind that almost looks like a home made holiday video. Although it obviously is supposed to be that at times. None of the characters are particularly appealing with the girls taking up the boozy bimbos from Leeds role whilst the boys play double-crossing posh kids. On top of that, they've rather foolishly casted 3 lads that all rather look similar which sort of complicates some scenes a little bit.
The plot is reasonable and is played out in progressively brutal fashion, I didn't really know what to expect and didn't actually see the end part coming, so that was surely a positive. Bluey - a sort of chavvy chap ladened down with gold chains has some classic phrases and sentences in the script and is definitely my favourite character.
Some of the gorey scenes were rather impressive and the majority of the budget was clearly spent on special effects, although they had at one point all done quite a lot of drugs, they all seemed to sober up immediately once the "Donkey Punch" had taken place, which I found a bit odd.
This film showed potential, with a cast made up of young British actors - it maybe could have done with a bit more balance and even a couple of old hands thrown in.
Summary: Mediocre
