Advantages: Great preformances, Great film

Disadvantages: Not for everyone

Staring possibly the most famous actress that walks the planet at the moment, I pretty much knew that anything starring Meryl Streep, and something that gave her another Oscar nomination under her belt was going to be good. I had brought my usual 4 from blockbusters over the weekend, and I have to say with the previous three, I was very disappointed, so I wasn't expecting much from this film.

The Plot
=======

Based in the 1960's, the film follows the life of a Catholic school and the suspicion that one nun has about the Priest and the child he has taken under his belt. Sister Aloysius is a hard nosed nun who only cares for people when it is her duty to do so, so when she hears that a young boy may have

My Opinion
=======

This is not the kind of film that everyone will like, I can't say I will be taking it to a mates house to watch or anything like that, I think you truly have to appreciate the film, the acting ability and the way it was very well directed and written.

The cinematography in the film was just fantastic, considering that the film was really only set within one building, it managed to give you some beautiful crisp clear shots which manage to add a lot more emotion to the film.

The Acting
=======

I have to say the reason I watched this was because of the Oscars, I'm not sure that without Meryl Streeps' Oscar nomination that I would have watched this so soon after it's release. This Oscar nomination is Streep's 15th Oscar nomination, making her the most nominated actor in the history of the Oscars.

Her performance in this film is very good, very different from her role in Mamma Mia, I assume both this film and Mamma Mia were filmed around about the same time, and it is amazing how she goes from her character in Mamma Mia, a singing care free woman to this hard nosed nun who has doubt against her priest. She really does deliver a fantastic performance, but you couldn't expect anything less from this actress.

Philip Seymour Hoffman is a weird actor for me, I for some reason really do respect him as an actor, I have for a few years now, but I have so far only seen him in a small few roles. I have not really seen him shine and I didn't really get to see him shine in this film as well because he was downsized by Streeps performance. He is a good actor in the film though, he does deliver a great performance as the 'maybe molester'.

Amy Adams is a good little actress, but I think her casting in this film was a little wrong. She has a very annoying voice and when she started rambling on about what the Priest likes, I have to say I hit forward on the remote as her voice just started grinding on me. She is over shined by the other two actress in the film however.

Oscar Nominations
============

Meryl Streeps performance I have to say was not as good as Winslet's performance in The Reader. I know some people say that Kate Winslet did not deserve the win and it was just because of the big hoop har surrounding her nomination, but out of all of the Oscar nominated films I've watched so far, her performance was brilliant.

The two nominated supporting roles in this film were wrongly given, Amy Adams was good but not Oscar worthy in the slightest, the same for Viola Davis who plays the 'molested' boy's mother, she's only in the film for a 10 minute period and Streep takes the scene away from her. I think there were more worthy performances, like Blanchetts performance in Curious Case of Benjamin Button which was not nominated.

========
Final Opinion
========

A very strong cast, especially in the two leads, I think Amy Adams was wrongly cast but she did deliver a good performance. The film itself is one of those that you have to see to really understand what it's about, and I think any one that loves cinema will really like this film, it is missing a bit of action and cute male actors, but other than that it is a very good film.

A very nice review, but is there something missing from your plot summary as it seems to end mid sentence?
