My husband brought this home for us to watch and at first I was dubious because I am not sure that I like the actor all that much. However, we really enjoyed the film. It is a remake of a black and white classic (I believe by the same name), and if you enjoyed that then you will like this one. I have to say that the story is amusing. ... Read the complete review

This film is loosely based on the 1978 film 'Heaven Can Wait' starring the heart throb of the day Warren Beatty, so you find a lot of the events in this film very familiar if you have seen the aforementioned film. Chris Rock plays Lance Barton, a struggling comic, whose act is just not funny, and all he dreams of doing is ... Read the complete review

'The Funniest Man In America' proclaims the front cover of romantic comedy 'Down To Earth'. They aren't referring to Jerry Springer. They aren't even referring to George Bush. No, they are referring to Chris Rock, who unfortunately in this film comes across as about as funny as an episode of Crimewatch. Rock plays ... Read the complete review

Down To Earth is one of those films thats easy to watch. Though it wont have you glued to the TV Screen it does provide a few humerous gags and is mildly entertaining in its field. Chris Rock plays Lance Barton a struggling comedian, who gets hit by a truck and killed before his time is supposed to be up. So he ends up in ... Read the complete review

Down To Earth is a time-tested story about a young man taken too soon, and his quest to return to the life and loves he once had. Originally released in the 40's (?) as Here Comes Mr. Jordan, then again by Warren Beatty as Heaven Can Wait, the film is known to one and all. Essentially, Lance (Rock) is a bike messenger/stand-up comic ... Read the complete review

Chris Rock, Chris Tucker, Chris Quentin yet another fast talking black comedian looking to fill the platinum shoes of Eddie Murphy and the great Richard Pryor. Those of you who read my reviews about films on a regular basis will know that I generally write about the movies I’ve seen and ones that I think deserve a wider audience sometimes. Ones I’d urge you to check out – Down to Earth is the exception to that rule I’m afraid/ This film however (along with my ‘The ... Read the complete review

We sat on the deserted beach staring at the setting sun behind the most beautiful pink and orange clouds behind a cobalt-blue sky. The waves gently lapped against the shore and soothed any hint of tension away. I held Jenny, my wife of 25 years in my arms and felt her warmth against me. We came here for our anniversary to explore new frontiers of ... Read the complete review

Chris Rock is the funniest black actor since Eddie Murphy. Remember his hip angel in Dogma and mean contract killer in Nurse Betty? Now, he does his own thing, with a little help from Warren Beatty and the writing crew from Emmy-award-winning The Chris Rock Show on TV. For brothers Chris and Paul Weitz this is their first directorial ... Read the complete review

At an early point in this film Chris Rock's character is on the stage doing a stand up comedy routine. It's not going well and all you can hear is the sound of the wind blowing through the auditorium. That's pretty much the effect this movie had on me. Rock plays Lance Barton, an amatuer stand-up comedian whose act stinks. One ... Read the complete review

I first encountered Chris Rock in Kevin Smith's excellent movie DOGMA, and in that he shone, as did everyone and everything else (it's a great movie in my opinion, in case you couldn't tell!). I've since been informed that Rock is in fact a famous American comedian, but although I've never seen any of his schtick, ... Read the complete review

This mildly amusing comedy is based on an old idea. A not-so-bright individual is killed and brought back to earth in a new body. Since the idea is from 1947 (the 1947 sequel to 'Here comes Mr. Jordan' was called 'Down to Earth'), you get the impression that they could come up with something better. Chris Rock plays ... Down to Earth I'd wanted to see Down to Earth for quite a while, even since hearing it was being made some time ago. Luckily enough, the film had been out in the states for quite some time, so the release of the R1 DVD was almost simultaneous with the UK Cinema release, so I was able to buy a copy on DVD and save the hassle (and ... Chris Rock plays a toned down version of himself - an African-American stand-up comedian. He is involved in a Road Traffic Accident, and winds up at the gates of the next world [run by Eugene Levvy and Chazz Palminteri]. Because he was taken before his time, he gets to use the next available body. Unfortunately for him it is a rich middle-aged ... Read the complete review

Comedian Chris Rock carries this film on his back, with a stream of gags that will have you falling about. ‘Down to Earth’ is a good fun film that is worth watching if you are looking for an antidote to a Blockbuster. This film is a remake of the Warren Beatty classic 'Heaven can wait' and is not a bad effort really. The story goes that Mr. Beatty always wanted the main character to be black in the original film and approached comedian/actor Chris Rock to take on the part in the update, I suspect Chris Rock isn't entirely happy with the results. ... This remake of Warren Beatty's Heaven Can Wait is a awful embarrassment. Chris Rock plays black stand up comic Lance Barton who is taken to heaven when a truck runs him down.
