Advantages: Good plot
Disadvantages: Not as good as the original
Dr. Dolittle is back inside the house and he's even bigger and better! Dr. Dolittle was the original film from 1998, it was great, everyone I know loved it so I went back to the cinema to see whether the follow up is just as good....... The film begins with Dr Dolittle, (Eddie Murphy) who has the powers to speak to members of the animal kingdom. His job is to help the little creatures and whilst doing this Dr. Dolittle's eldest daughter Charisse, (Raven-Symone) is about to turn 16 and she feels neglected by her father. So when Dr Dolittle realises this a trip to Europe seems an ideal solution to help bribe his daughter. But with such an important job, Dr. Dolittle manages to get caught up in helping some animals in a campaign to save a forest near his San Francisco home. By talking to the animals of the forest, Dr Dolittle comes up with a rather cunning plan much to the despite of his family who are ALL rather annoyed at not going to Europe. His cunning plan is to introduce a pair of rare Western Pacific bears to the forest so they can 'get along' and make more rare Western Pacific bears, therefore the forest won't be able to be destroyed. Of course the story won't be that simple, the bears proove to be a bit of a problem. With Archie the circus performing bear voiced by Steve Zahn and Ava the wild version of the bear voiced by Lisa Kudrow the bears differences proove a problem. With Ava as the 'forest babe' bear and Archie as the dumm, stupid bear, Dr Dolittle realises that their differences need to be sorted before anything will happen between the pair. So Dr Dolittle is given a set amount of time to make Archie into a wild bear so he can hit it off with Ava. The task prooves harder than expected and the story goes on to see whether Dr Dolittle will save the forest or whether it will be cut down, the story carries on with the twist of whether Dr Dolittle will still have his
family at the end of his task... With some great actors and actresses and great voice overs for the animals, this film is funny yet rather serious, mixing to plots into one sounds confusing but once you've seen the film, you'll find it isn't at all. If you liked the original Dr Dolittle then I'm sure you'll like this, you'll find it's rather different though with a different plot and new animals, you'll unfortuantely find that the guinea pig and lion are sadly no-where to be seen though. Fancy a funny but serious family flik? I recommend Dr Dolittle. Thanks for reading ~M~

rosebud49 - 16/09/01 I saw the first Dr Doolittle and just cracked up laughing through the whole movie. Wasn't too sure whether I wanted to see the next one or not because a lot of times the sequel is not as good as the first. After reading your op I am definitely going to go and see it. Thanks for the info. Great op. |
