Advantages: Eddie Murphy, Some funny scenes, Talking animals
Disadvantages: Too predictable, Interest faded half way through
Sequels are well known for not living up to the standards set in the original so when I heard that Dr Dolittle 2 was being released I had my reservations. Especially as Eddie Murphy's recent batch of movies has been pretty poor. Dr Dolittle follows on from the original. For anyone who has not seen the first movie Eddie Murphy plays Dr Dolittle who is not your ordinary doctor. He has the power to talk to animals. This means that he is very popular in the animal kingdom and gets lots of visits from animals desperate for the doctors help. Dr Dolittle 2 starts with the Dr being over worked with animals asking for his help. He is not spending enough time with his family and especially his teenage daughter. The doctor vows to stop working so hard and spend more time at home. Well that is the plan until he has a run in with the local beaver. The beaver explains that the local forests are going to be knocked down and that they need the doctors help. The Doctor decides to help the animals and goes about saving the forest. The only way the doctor feels he can help is by releasing some endangered bears into the forest and stating that they need to live there. So the story revolves around the doctor attempting to get two bears to mate! Dr Dolittle 2 starts off very funny and I thought that it was going to live up to the standards of the first movie. However disappointingly the film looses it funny appeal and gets a little silly. I suppose the talking animals are a bit of a novelty at the beginning but arte not interesting enough to carry the whole film. Eddie Murphy is back to his best in this movie. After a few dodgy films he seems at home with the doctor role. In Nutty Professor his character is sometimes a little overwelming but in Dr Dolittle 2 he is much more bearable. Dr Dolittle is a reasonably entertaining movie. It is not a classic but I wasnt expecting it to be. It is a good nights entertainment and will keep the kids
happy. It is not the sort of film which you will watch over and over but for a one off movie it will do its job.

- 04/12/01 I think it's a great family comedy and i laughed out loud when i watched it. The way the animals act fascinates me and the animation used to make them look like they speak is very believable. |
