Dragon - The Bruce Lee Story (DVD)

Description: Genre: Action & Adventure / Director: Rob Cohen / Actors: Jason Scott Lee, Lara Flynn Boyle ... / DVD released 21 July, ... more
Dragon - The Bruce Lee Story (DVD) ... 2003 at Universal Pictures UK / Features of the DVD: Dubbed, PAL, Widescreen / This enjoyable and touching biography of martial-arts film star Bruce Lee stars Jason Scott Lee (no relation), an actor with a lively face and natural intensity, who makes every moment of this film compelling. Directed by Rob Cohen, Dragon traces Bruce Lee's slow rise over myriad obstacles--most of them race-based--to become an international superstar in films. Lee's origins are oddly set in San Francisco instead of his real home in Seattle, but then again there is plenty of artistic license going on as Cohen explores the actor's psyche through some powerful fantasy sequences. Lauren Holly is good as Lee's wife, Linda (whose book about her late husband inspired this movie). A scene involving Bruce's rescue of son Brandon (who died in a film-making accident in 1993) from a murderous spirit is plain spooky. The special-edition DVD release has a widescreen presentation, director interview, featurette, screen tests, closed captioning, optional French soundtrack and Spanish subtitles. --Tom Keogh, Amazon.com --This text refers to the VHS edition of this video

Premium Review Dragon - The Bruce Lee Story (DVD): The story of the legend that is Bruce Lee (1285 words)
by - written on 30/10/07 (Very useful, 206 readings)
Rating:

Now,this is not normally the sort of film I would choose to watch, but my partner is a huge fan of Bruce Lee so when this came on the tele over the weekend, I knew I would end up watching it with him. I expected not to like it but I was pleasantly surprised by what a good and informative movie it was, so much so that I felt a bit compelled today to write a review on it. So here is my review of Dragon: The Bruce Lee Story. Now I expect most of you have heard of Bruce Lee at some point in your lives since he is somewhat of a legend in the Kung-Fu / Martial Arts movie genre. Bruce Lee was a superbly talented Chinese Martial Artist who revolutionised the way Kung ...  Read the complete review

Crowned Review The Dragon breathes on! (1027 words)

Rating:

In the wake of Bruce Lee's untimely death back in 1973, Chinese film companies cashed in on his name and produced a bucketload of films to dramatise his life. These films, which boast daft titles such as 'Bruce Lee Fights back from the grave', 'Bruce's Fist of Vengeance','The True Game of Death' and 'The Real Bruce Lee' are well known as Bruceploitation films, and they starred equally ridiculous main stars like Bruce Li, Bruce Le, Bruce Leung and Dragon Lee. These films were created on the back of various theories behind his death. Officially Bruce Lee, the greatest oriental Martial Arts star of all time, died of a cerebral oedema (brain swelling), as an allergic ...  Read the complete review

Crowned Review Dragon - The Bruce Lee Story (DVD): The Life of the Dragon (1277 words)
by - written on 15/04/06 (Very useful, 202 readings)
Rating:

It was only a matter of time before the life of legendary martial arts expert Bruce Lee, was given the Hollywood treatment. So it came as no surprise when in 1993, Dragon: The Bruce Lee Story hit the big screens, spookily being released just a few months after the mysterious death of Bruce's son, Brandon Lee. It is testament to the popularity of Bruce Lee that in its opening weekend in the USA, Dragon nearly recuperated the entire $14,000,000 budget that was spent on the production. Dragon is based on the autobiography "The Man Only I Knew" written by Bruce's wife, Linda Lee Cadwell and follows the story of Bruce from his early days in 60s China, ...  Read the complete review

Crowned Review The man behind the mystery (1214 words)
by - written on 12/09/03 (Very useful, 72 readings)
Rating:

The front of this DVD introduces the film as 'The Mystery. The Life. The Love. The Legend'. For me, Bruce Lee has always been a bit of a mystery. I knew who he was and what he did, but I really did not know much else about him, and as this is a film my wife has always enjoyed, I decided to buy it on DVD for her to replace the well played video she has had since we first got together in 1995. The DVD is certificate 15, but to be honest I would let a 12 year old watch it so I think the rating may be a bit harsh. Bruce Lee is played by Jason Scott Lee, who is no relation, but looks uncannily like Bruce, and it is surely the part he was born to play. ...  Read the complete review

Premium Review Dragon - The Bruce Lee Story (DVD): She is one of my own. (284 words)
by - written on 06/09/00 (Very useful, 17 readings)
Rating:

I'm going to say this now to the point across and straight. Jason Scott Lee is of no relation in any shape or form to Bruce Lee the man that he plays. Right that's out of the way. Now as you've guess Dragon is the film about the legendary martial artist Bruce Lee. It is based on the book 'Bruce Lee the only man i knew' written by Linda Lee Cadwell, his wife. The story basically starts from when he is a young man and is forced to leave Hong Kong and move to San Fransisco. It then follows him as he meets his wife Linda, sets up his Kung-Fu dojo's, invent Jeet Kune Do, through to his film career and then to his untimely death in ...  Read the complete review
