Now,this is not normally the sort of film I would choose to watch, but my partner is a huge fan of Bruce Lee so when this came on the tele over the weekend, I knew I would end up watching it with him. I expected not to like it but I was pleasantly surprised by what a good and informative movie it was, so much so that I felt a bit compelled today to write a review on it. So here is my review of Dragon: The Bruce Lee Story. Now I expect most of you have heard of Bruce Lee at some point in your lives since he is somewhat of a legend in the Kung-Fu / Martial Arts movie genre. Bruce Lee was a superbly talented Chinese Martial Artist who revolutionised the way Kung ... Read the complete review

In the wake of Bruce Lee's untimely death back in 1973, Chinese film companies cashed in on his name and produced a bucketload of films to dramatise his life. These films, which boast daft titles such as 'Bruce Lee Fights back from the grave', 'Bruce's Fist of Vengeance','The True Game of Death' and 'The Real Bruce Lee' are well known as Bruceploitation films, and they starred equally ridiculous main stars like Bruce Li, Bruce Le, Bruce Leung and Dragon Lee. These films were created on the back of various theories behind his death. Officially Bruce Lee, the greatest oriental Martial Arts star of all time, died of a cerebral oedema (brain swelling), as an allergic ... Read the complete review

It was only a matter of time before the life of legendary martial arts expert Bruce Lee, was given the Hollywood treatment. So it came as no surprise when in 1993, Dragon: The Bruce Lee Story hit the big screens, spookily being released just a few months after the mysterious death of Bruce's son, Brandon Lee. It is testament to the popularity of Bruce Lee that in its opening weekend in the USA, Dragon nearly recuperated the entire $14,000,000 budget that was spent on the production. Dragon is based on the autobiography "The Man Only I Knew" written by Bruce's wife, Linda Lee Cadwell and follows the story of Bruce from his early days in 60s China, ... Read the complete review

The front of this DVD introduces the film as 'The Mystery. The Life. The Love. The Legend'. For me, Bruce Lee has always been a bit of a mystery. I knew who he was and what he did, but I really did not know much else about him, and as this is a film my wife has always enjoyed, I decided to buy it on DVD for her to replace the well played video she has had since we first got together in 1995. The DVD is certificate 15, but to be honest I would let a 12 year old watch it so I think the rating may be a bit harsh. Bruce Lee is played by Jason Scott Lee, who is no relation, but looks uncannily like Bruce, and it is surely the part he was born to play. ... Read the complete review

As much as I found Dragon -- a biopic of Hong Kong actor, martial artist, and philosopher, Bruce Lee -- enjoyable and entertaining, I found it rather melodramatic in places. Many wouldn't argue with the opinion that Lee was a larger-than-life character, and I know biopics are supposed to celebrate the life of a particular person, but the film lacked substance and almost felt like a parody in places, to me. Based on the book, Bruce Lee: The Man Only I Knew by Linda Lee Cadwell (his widow), this film tells the story of an icon, from his childhood in China, his emigration to the U.S., working as a waiter in a San Francisco restaurant, to his development of the ...
