A strange fantasy tale and some good direction and acting make Dragonheart a very interesting film indeed. The film was released in 1996, and stars Dennis Quaid, and David Thewlis, with the voice of Sean Connery as a huge, CGI dragon. The director, Rob Cohen, off the back of a 3 year gap since filming Dragon: The Bruce Lee story, gives the film some zip and brings everything together rather well. King Einon (David Thewlis) has semi-immortality following his acquiring half a dragon heart. His pleasant nature switches to that of a power hungry ruler, and dragonslayer Bowen (Dennis Quaid), a washed out soldier, seems to be the only one who can bring him down. ... Dragonheart is a most underrated fantasy film and probably the best one of the genre made in the 90s. Dragonheart is the story of a knight that trains a young prince and that by destinies will is forced to fight against him when he becomes a king together with draco, an dragon linked to the prince by magic. Starring Denis Quaid does an amazing job has the knight of the old code, a warrior linked to the code of chivalry set by King Arthur himself. Quaid delivers most of his lines flawlessly and performs very well in fighting scenes. Sean Connery, while only in voice, gives an amazing personality ... Read the complete review

What is it exactly about the fantasy genre which seems to make it virtually impossible to transplant from the written word to the visual screen? Surely of all the movie genres out there this should be one of the richest veins for Hollywood to plunder, especially seeing as fantasy movies have such an enormous built in audience before the cameras even start rolling. There are countless works of fantasy fiction, millions of fans of this and the board games, computer software etc. which sprung up around it and yet you can count successful or worthy fantasy movies on just one hand! Labyrinth, Conan, Lord Of The Rings, The Beastmaster(I liked it anyway) spring to mind, ... Read the complete review

I have a bit of a weakness for children's films, no two ways about it. This is a good one - action, critters, comedy, and a passably intelligent script. The plot: Imagine that pseudo-medieval setting in which most fantasy stuff occurs. Bowen (Dennis Quaid)is a knight who was training the heir to the throne in being decent, honourable etc. However, when said heir is fatally injured and restored by a dragon, things go wrong, and the lad (played by David Thewlis) turns into a bit of a monster. Bowen swears to hunt down all dragons as a result. Some years later, we find him still hunting, and dragons are getting thin on the ground. When he runs into Draco ... Read the complete review

Starring Sean Connery and Dennis Quaid, Dragon Heart is a great family film featuring some amazing special effects. The story starts with a Dragon Slayer, Bowen (Quaid) who has made it his goal to destroy all the dragons after he believed that his apprentices heart was poisoned by a dragon. As he tries to kill a dragon called Drago (voice of Connery) the two become friends and together vow to overthrow the now evil king who used used to be Quaids apprentice. The story not only features great special effects, but also adds some comedy and action to the plot as Bowen and Drago work together at first to get rich, and then to destroy the evil king. It turns out ... Read the complete review
