Burning_Darkness The Last King Of Scotland (DVD)
... in 2006, The Last King of Scotland is a British film based upon the true story of Idi Amin s brutal rule of Uganda in the 1970s, starring James McAvoy as Scottish doctor Nicholas Garrigan (actually a conglomerate of several real-life individuals merged into one in the interests of poetic licence) who travels to Uganda and is befreinded by larger-than life dictator Amin who adopts the Scotsman as his chief doctor and key advisor. paul1983 Control (DVD)
... a big Joy Division fan and having read every book, magazine article, newspaper snippets etc I could pore over, I was excited to see the news that Control was to be released, although slightly disappointed it would be based on Deborah Curtis s book. Not because the book was poor but because I was looking forward to a new slant. However the film sticks to the book very well. Deborah Curtis comes across well and Ian comes across as both a complete prat and a decent guy in rare spells. Filmed in black and white, Anton Corbijn captures a very arty scene and hsi landscaping of the North-Western scenery in the early parts of the film is quite wonderful. Newcomer Sam Ri...

paul1983 Twilight [2008] (DVD)
... m afraid I m going to break the Twilight love-in here from the previous reviews and say I didn t really think it was all that. First of all it takes soooooooo long for the film to get going, I m not kidding the first hour was like the 10-minute introduction to every teen-flick dragged out way, way, way too long. When it takes an hour for the basic plot and characters to be introduced I find it hard to really get excited about it. I m not prepared to really get into the whole Edward thing other than to say he looks like a poor Lost Boy and Robert Pattinson is very wooden. His substandard acting is only worsened by that of Kristen Stewart. With such superb acting dis...
